The Trinity

The explanation for the Trinity is quite simple, and it has remarkable Biblical support.

God must transcend time. If God does not transcend time, then time transcends God. If time transcends God, where did time come from?

God created time, so God transcends time.

The Son of God must move within time since the Son of God came into the world and was born and lived as a human.

God the Father is outside of time while God the Son came into time. The Son is begotten of the Father as stated in the Nicene Creed. There was never a “time” when the Son of God did not exist.

Jesus explained the Trinity

Mark 13:32 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

God the Father is not keeping a secret from God the Son. The Son of God has knowledge of the day and hour of His return. God the Father “knows” or is one with all moments on the timeline. The Father doesn’t merely have knowledge of the end; He is already there. The Father “knows” the time of the end more fully than simply having knowledge of the day and hour. What Jesus is saying in Mark 13:32 is that only God the Father transcends time.

Numbers 23:19 (ESV) God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

God the Father is not a man that He should change His mind. If God decides and later changes His mind that would require God to be moving in time. God the Father is outside of time and therefore cannot change His mind.

But in the Bible God does change His mind.

Jonah 3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Exodus 32:13-14 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

The Son changes His mind

God the Son in His dealings with people would be able to change His mind. When God changed His mind, it would be God the Son, not God the Father.

The Trinity is explained by God being both outside of time, while also moving in time. This is a simple solution, but it had to be kept secret until the time of the end. There may have been many occasions when a Christian thought of time as a solution to the Trinity, but God would always cause that thought to be quickly forgotten. God could not allow scholars to explore time as a solution to the Trinity as that would lead to a remarkable revelation.

There is a third member of the Trinity, so there would have to be a second consciousness of God moving in time. In discussing this possibility, scholars would realize that God the Son and God the Holy Spirit would likely exist at two different levels of reality.

One possibility is that God the Holy Spirit is in Heaven, while God the Son is in a transcending level of Heaven. The “Right Hand” of God is not Christ sitting beside God, it is a transcending level of reality.
