A song is a message. Often a song will tell a story, but even when it does there is a message in the story. One common theme in both the Old and New Testament is that the followers of God in the end times will sing a new song. Being a new song means that it is a new message. A revelation from God. When the Bible talks of this new song there are clues concerning the message that is contained in the song.
Psalms 96:1-3 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
This new message shows or reveals the salvation of God and declares His glory.
Psalms 98:1-3 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory. The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
This new message makes His salvation known. It reveals how the right hand of God (Christ) has gotten the victory, and since it is a new message then every message or theory before it must have been wrong. Christ has gotten the victory, both in the redemption of His children and in the destruction of evil.
Isaiah 42:9-14 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands. The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies. I have long time holden my peace; I have been still ,and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.
People throughout the world will rejoice in this new message, and yet part of the message is about the wrath of God destroying and devouring. This seems like a contradiction unless the wrath of God is not directed at humanity. The wrath of God is directed at Satan, but more than this the wrath of God is directed at evil itself. Evil is what God destroys and devours, and God does this while redeeming His children which explains why there is rejoicing in the earth.
Armageddon may be a battle between good and evil in the earth, but not in Heaven. It is a time of the destruction of evil. The devil or evil itself must be what God destroys, and this revelation is part of the new song and how this is achieved is part of the new song. As Satan learns he has been outsmarted by God, the devil continues in his efforts to destroy humanity but in a less restrained way. “Armageddon” or “tribulation” is mostly the work of an unleashed Satan, and by his actions the case against Satan is made absolute.
Revelation 5:8-10 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
One central theme of the new song is Christ and how He provides redemption to His children. With this new message we learn that the redemption provided by Christ is not only for the Christian nations, but it is for the children of God from all nations, peoples, and tongues.
Revelation 14:1-3 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
Eventually the whole world may be singing this new song, but it starts with just a small percentage of humanity which can learn the new song. To learn is to believe. This would those who believe in the new message.
Another central theme of this new message is praise to the glory of God. The new song or new message reveals how God has done marvelous things, and how the will of God is achieved in absolute completeness. God gives us our own free will; He judges all by their works; He destroys all evil, and yet God redeems all His children. God in His mercy redeems every tiny piece of love, and God in His justice destroys every tiny piece of evil. God wins in all things, and He loses none of His children. God sets all things right, and His will is achieved in all things. God is in complete control. There is no greater comfort than to know that God is in complete control, and in all things, His will be done.
